On the 25th of June 2016 I facilitated a workshop on "traditional markets" as part of the "Reclaim our spaces" event organised by The Ubele Initiative, Spark and Just Space. The meeting got together activists from across London wanting to reclaim community spaces from the state or private developers to grow a variety of projects from food gardens, to markets, to skate parks and community centres. In the story telling session we heard from Carlos Burgos, the Chair of the The West Green Road and Seven Sisters Development Trust, who are battling to Save the Latin American indoor Market Seven Sisters (sign their petition here). My workshop discussed how can we reclaim traditional retail markets as affordable community spaces. My notes of the meeting can be found here. A general report on the day is here |
